The scope of this project was to stabilize soils under four concrete footers.
Each footer was located within five feet of a proposed elevator shaft pit to
be installed.
Excavation of the elevator shaft would require digging 8-10-feet below the bottom
of each footer. Needless to say any movement of the footing could jeopardize
the entire building structure. Rock drills were used to drill through the 4-foot
thick footers so that injection rods could be placed and used to pressure grout
in place over 1000-gallons of expanding polyurethane grout. Once injected the
polyurethane grout solidified and compacted the soils directly under each footer.
After grouting operations were completed excavation of the elevator pit begin.
Grouting crews remained on site to monitor excavation of the pit over a 3-week
period and recorded no measurable movement of the footers and support columns.
