April 2002
T. Luckey Sons Inc. was contacted by the IT Corporation and asked to design a
unique grouting plan to solve a unique problem. The problem, waste was leaking from bunker trench drains and
threatening to enter the ground. Continued leakage would ultimately cause groundwater
contamination.
T. Luckey Sons Inc. worked side by side with IT. Corporation for nearly a year
deigning a grouting sequence that would completely solidify the bunker trench
drains. Great detail was given to the grouting deign because only one attempt
could be made at grouting, the wrong application, sequence, or material selection
could obstruct the bunker trench drains and not allow full penetration.
To make matters worse, there were three different soil types within the trench
drains that had to be solidified, gravel, sand and dense graded aggregate.
After reviewing every detail possible, grouting begin April 2, 2002 and lasted
approximately 2-weeks. Once completed, dye was used to monitor and test the
results of the grouting program through a series of wells. All indications to
date show successful results with no additional leakage since completion of
the grouting program.
